Independent Hip-Hop Classic Self Preservation Set for FORM Reissue
FORM has signed a deal to reissue Encore’s Self Preservation. Under the agreement, FORM will work with The Architect's Black Madonna which maintains the rights to the album and work to expand its reach.
Encore (Shaya Bekele) is an American rapper and producer known for his contributions to the independent hip-hop scene. His discography includes significant work with the collaborative project Handsome Boy Modeling School and the group Executive Lounge.
Encore’s discography features several notable releases, including his 2000 solo album Self Preservation, the 2001 project Executive Lounge with the group of the same name, the 2004 release Layover, and his contribution to the 1999 Handsome Boy Modeling School album So... How's Your Girl?.
Throughout his career, Encore has collaborated with a variety of independent and major labels to release his music, including 75 Ark, Hiero Imperium, Stones Throw Records, Brick Records, Landspeed Records, Tommy Boy, Southpaw Records, ABB Records, and NBN Archives.
Within the underground and independent hip-hop circuits, Encore has worked with a wide range of artists, including A-Plus, Opio, and Pep Love of Hieroglyphics, Ladybug Mecca of Digable Planets, Peanut Butter Wolf, El Da Sensei, DJ Topspin, Arcee, and D-Tension.
Released in 2000, Self Preservation features production primarily by The Architect. The album includes guest appearances from various underground hip-hop artists, such as Dave Dub on "Esoteric (Exec Anthem)," Grand The Visitor on "Considadis," Kedar on "The View," Holekost and Turban on "E.T.," and Pep Love on "The Situation." The reissue excludes the bonus track "It's Going Down," produced by Joey Chavez.
